Extinct New Zealand Huia Birds

Using the Ancient Lost Wax Bronze Casting Process, I have Produced this Beautiful Bronze Replica

of a pair of Male and Female Huia Birds. The Original Sculpture was Hand made around 1999

It was a Limited Edition Series Piece made up of 12 copies only, including one artist copy.

What a Tragedy it is that these Beautiful Birds are now extinct.

New Zealand Treasure series – bronze The Bronze Pair of Huia Birds are SOLD OUT.

The New Zealand Treasure series – is a series of Bronze Sculptures, which are limited in number and are of impeccable detail and quality. Each Bronze comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and valuation, and we keep a record of each Bronze sold, in our Bronze register.

Currently within the New Zealand Treasure Series,  I have Completed and Sold Out of a Life Size Bronze Tuatara, and the Pair of Huia Birds, of which you can view photos here on this website.

I Have Completed and added a Life Size Bronze Kakapo of which, only 7  are left for sale. The Last Kakapo bronze weighed around 44 Kilograms.

As my Sculptural Skill has improved somewhat over the last 20 years, I have started Sculpting a new more detailed Tuatara which has a Weta in its mouth, my plan is to cast this new Life size Tuatara into Bronze, but it will be the last life size Tuatara that I Sculpt, as there are so many Sea Birds and Native Birds that I would like to Sculpt and cast into Bronze.

With these Sculptures I am focused on Quality. These Bronzes are not just deliberately priced high. There is a minimum of 14 different Materials put to use during the Lost wax process to complete one Bronze, These Materials are expensive. It takes some months to Sculpt a model and weeks in the mold making process which is necessary to get the wax casting or wax copy of the original which I need to produce the final Bronze, once I have the wax the process can then , take a minimum of 3 weeks if all goes well and this only depends on the size or detail in the sculpture. We usually at this stage give ourselves 8 weeks, to be sure our Bronzes Completion and Quality is of the Highest Standard. This is where the final detailing and Craftmanship is involved to complete a Bronze. But in reality The Entire Lost Wax Process Demands a High level of Skill and Knowledge of using materials that are critical to that process as is room temperatures, air flow, Kiln and Furnace Temperatures, Pouring Temps, Shell Temps etc, etc, there’s a Science of Materials & Temperatures that must be observed, or failure will be your best friend in the casting world.

I Hope that you will take time to check out my Website from time to time, to see what I’m making next’.
